What to eat before travelling to Torres del Paine
The last served dinner before several days of effort in cold and wind: how to think about it.
The meal before entering the park does a different job from any other dinner: it is the last one with service, fixed hours and guaranteed fresh produce before several days of rations, refuges and weather. Framing it as "the best dinner of the trip" is usually a mistake of sequence.
Practical criteria
- Timing: departure for the park is usually early. A dinner that ends late costs the next day more than it adds.
- Digestion: the night before a long walking day is not the moment to try products you have never eaten, sea urchin included.
- Location: Puerto Natales concentrates the served offer. Inside the park the choice is marginal and depends on the refuge.
- Confirmation: outside high season hours contract. Calling to confirm on the day avoids the worst case.
About the park
Quotas, fees, gate hours and trail status for Torres del Paine are set and published by CONAF and change by season. THE WHOLE does not reproduce those figures as its own: it links to the official source and records when it was consulted.
